The Brief
As part of their re-organisation, the Yorkshire site was losing a number
of employees from a range of disciplines including planning, estimating,
sales, engineering, joinery, draughting and design.
Meeting Challenges / Overcoming Barriers
Staff facing redundancy can feel very concerned and anxious. One of the challenges
was to acknowledge delegates’ feelings
and allow their expression, whilst also encouraging them to develop a positive
attitude in order to be able to move on and apply for other jobs.
Our Approach
The VT Methven consultant met all staff under notice of redundancy in an
introductory group meeting, to ensure that everyone got the same message
at the same time.
The programme of workshops, with options for individual consultation times,
was outlined, and delegates invited to sign up for sessions. Each workshop
was scheduled to run twice, covering:
Career appraisal and skills, CV preparation, Job search, Interview skills.
