The Customer:
Central Government Department
The Brief
The change programme had highlighted a number of groups of people who required
varying degrees of career support: high flyers, returners from secondment
and maternity leave, those planning to take retirement, staff in the poor
performers category, individuals whose jobs were ‘at risk’, and
managers who required additional support to secure internal opportunities.
After a competitive tendering exercise VT Methven was tasked in delivering
an effective career transition programme tailored to each of the groups within
a tight budget.
The Approach
A number of meetings were held with the senior HR and key operations team
members, to enable VT Methven to understand the department and why the business
decisions had been taken.
The groups and individuals making up the groups were reviewed and totally
tailored programmes were put into place. We carried out group work and some
1-1 support, covering topics such as: Career appraisal (achievements, skills,
strengths, values & needs audits), CV / Letter writing, Job Search campaign,
Marketing campaign, Effective Interviewing. Other modules such as Retirement
Planning, Self Employment, Portfolio Career & Financial Planning were introduced
as applicable.
